A Carter County man was killed Wednesday evening in a single-vehicle crash near the TVA Wilbur Dam boat ramp.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, James Riddle, 41, of Tennessee, was driving a 2008 Mazda M6 on Wilbur Dam Road at approximately 6:32 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway. The car struck an earth embankment and continued into the lake.

Riddle, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
