Hampton softball coach Allison Riddle and her staff have the Hampton Bulldogs program heading in the right direction, and things are starting to come together for the young squad as they have a firm grip on second place in 2A-Region 1. The last thing they could afford to do was trip up against a Lady Warriors team that is starting to show improvement themselves. The Lady Bulldogs would put up 21 hits as they put another one in the win column.

Hadley Vines went 4-for-5 and knocked in five RBIs to lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs, as they used a five-run second inning to pull ahead and not look back. Hannah Smith also went 4-for-5, as did Briley Davis. Maleah Scalf chipped in a couple of base hits and added two RBIs to her team-leading 29, while Mallory Lamb picked up three base hits and two doubles.

On the mound, Davis threw six innings and surrendered three runs while picking up 10 strikeouts in the win.

For the Warriors, who picked up 11 base hits themselves, Natalie Cline, Alex Moore and Chloe Cochran each collected multiple hits. Trinity Bowers went the distance on the mound for the Lady Warriors.

Coach Riddle sees a lot of maturing in her squad.
“The team has grown leaps and bounds over the last year. The work they’ve put in has really shown. They have remained positive through the highs and lows. I couldn’t be prouder of this group of girls,” she said.

North Greene 9, Cloudland 7
Despite trailing by seven runs in the third inning, the Lady Highlanders nearly completed the comeback, bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Ultimately, 10 errors in the game for Cloudland were just too much to overcome. Jayla Harper and Khloe Johnson each collected two hits for the Highlanders.

Sullivan East 11, Unaka 7
Unaka could not hold onto an early lead as the Lady Patriots scored five runs in the sixth to take the lead. The Lady Rangers took the loss despite outhitting the Patriots 13 to 9. Mollie Buckles went 3-for-4 and picked up three RBIs in the loss, while Katelyn Dugger also collected three hits.
Devalyn Harter added two hits and two stolen bases.

Elizabethton 8, IAM Tri-Cities 2
The Lady Cyclones scored eight runs in the fourth inning to break open a scoreless game; the big hit came in the form of an Adrian Heading three-run home run. Sadie Williams, Lily McDuffie and Jozey Reece each added two hits.

The combination of McDuffie and Laci Gobble handled mound duties, giving up no earned runs and just three hits.

Baseball

Gatlinburg-Pittman 3, Happy Valley 0
Drew Blevins threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run and picking up 10 strikeouts, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors could not get the base hit they needed in key moments. Carlos Lopez picked up two base hits for the Warriors.

University High 11, Cloudland 3
The Highlanders couldn’t keep pace with the Bucs Thursday night as UH jumped out early, scoring five runs in the first inning. Jacob Withee, Jacob Stinnett and Colin Davis each collected a base hit for Cloudland. Thomas Job threw all six innings for the Highlanders.
