To the Editor:
It’s great to read that our students at Elizabethton High School are learning to grow plants in their greenhouses and are having a big sale Saturday morning, April 26. People should buy their vegetable plants and flowers from these students. The cost for four vegetable plants in each tray is only two dollars. They have hanging baskets that would be great for Mother’s Day for only $15. By choosing these high school programs, you’re not just getting quality plants; you’re helping the future of agriculture in our community.
Many are saying the honey bee population is dying in record numbers and will result in the lowest yields ever for some farm plants this year!
It’s great that our local schools are learning about the importance of agriculture. Many schools scare and stress students with exaggeration and misinformation, such as the lie that climate change by humans is destroying the planet. Humans have about as much environmental impact as spitting in Watauga Lake would affect it.
Most schools and over a billion people observe or celebrate Earth Day on April 22 each year. Carbon dioxide is less than 1 percent of our atmosphere, and humans only contribute 4 percent of the carbon dioxide, the rest coming from oceans, decaying vegetation and volcanoes.
Environmentalists wrongly put the planet over people. The Christian priority is to put people first by telling them about Jesus and that Jesus is their greatest need. The Bible says we are to be good stewards of the earth, but we can’t save it. When saving the earth is your number one issue and focus, it has become your religion. What you devote your time and money to can become your god or idol. Only Jesus can save the earth and each of us!
You can’t get eternal life by feeling or seeing God in nature or helping the poor. Disaster is often God’s judgment, and not man-made climate change. On March 28, a strong 7.7 earthquake destroyed many Buddhist temples, shrines and statues of false gods and idols. Psalm 9 says, “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all nations that forget God.”
The sun affects the climate more than anything. Volcanoes and clouds affect the climate more than humans. The sun affects the record volcanoes and earthquakes we continue to experience. The Bible says earthquakes will increase and everything that can be shaken will be shaken in these end days.
Russia once said America would become four countries. America will receive God’s judgment and could become several countries if we pressure Israel to become two countries, as France and other countries are doing. The seven-year tribulation with war, food shortages, viruses and great earthquakes will be the worst time in history and is coming soon. Faith in Jesus and his blood covering your sin and his finished work on the cross is all that will save you from great tribulation and judgment. Jesus is mighty to save!
It was 250 years ago on April 18, 1775, that Paul Revere made his famous “midnight ride” to warn of British military redcoats coming and became a hero. In the same way, we Christians must put on the whole armor of God, as the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 6, to be prepared to face our enemies. Like Paul Revere, Christians must be “ready to ride” and warn and shout: Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming!
