Members of the Unicoi County Hospital Auxiliary presented Sycamore Shoals Hospital with a donation of more than $8,000 on Tuesday, April 8, during a visit with hospital leaders.

The funds will be used to purchase new chairs for the hospital’s emergency department rooms, enhancing comfort for patients and visitors alike.

“This donation is incredibly special because it comes from our neighbors in Unicoi County,” said Dwayne Taylor, chief executive officer of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. “The Unicoi County Hospital Auxiliary is full of generous volunteers who are dedicated to improving the experience of patients and visitors however they can. Even though they have suffered through the unimaginable loss of their own facility, they are still dedicated to their goal of helping others.”

Despite the loss of Unicoi County Hospital due to Hurricane Helene, auxiliary members have remained active in supporting regional health care efforts. Their continued fundraising and community engagement efforts demonstrate an ongoing commitment to quality care in the region.

The donation marks another chapter in the partnership between the auxiliary and Ballad Health, which operates both Sycamore Shoals Hospital and the former Unicoi County facility.

“We are so grateful for the continued support of the Unicoi County Hospital Auxiliary,” Taylor said. “Their kindness is a testament to the strength and compassion of our region.”
