Spring Bird Walk

Meet other birders and naturalists at Sycamore Shoals for a morning of birding during the migratory season. Sponsored by the Lee & Lois Herndon Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society.
Spring Frolic! Outdoor Games & Dancing

Free admission: Meet near Fort Watauga
The Sabine Hill Social Society will celebrate the spring season with a fun day of outdoor activities. Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy an afternoon of early 19th-century period games and dancing. Look for us near the fort. Please bring your own refreshments, chair or ground cover. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
English Country Dancing

Dancing was a very popular social pastime in early America. Beginners and seasoned dancers alike are all welcome to learn early 19th-century dances. No cost to attend. Open to anyone, with or without experience or a partner. Sponsored by the Sabine Hill Social Society.

Step back to the 18th century as members of the Washington County Militia living history organization gather at Fort Watauga to demonstrate various skills, trades and aspects of daily life on the colonial frontier. Learn about life in the Watauga Settlement on the eve of the Revolutionary War.
Old Time Music Jam

Free admission: Meet in the visitor center gathering room
Enjoy a mix of old-time and traditional folk, Celtic and gospel music. Acoustic instruments such as fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin, dulcimer (both kinds), autoharp, feet (no taps) are welcome. All who are interested in playing, learning about or listening to old-time and traditional folk music are invited. Feel free to bring a recording device for learning purposes.
“Never Forget” – Memorial Day Concert

Free admission: Presented in the Fort Watauga Amphitheater
Join us on Memorial Day as the Johnson City Community Concert Band presents a special concert to remember and honor those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. In addition to the concert, a special ceremony will recognize those throughout our nation’s history who have fallen in service to our country.
Spring Knap-In at Fort Watauga

Knapping – with a “K” – has nothing to do with sleep! Knapping is the art of making stone tools. Watch skilled craftspeople make arrow points, spear points and other early survival tools. There will also be demonstrations of bow and arrow and atlatl throughout the day.
Visitor Center Hours
Open daily 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (Closed noon–1 p.m.)
Park grounds are open from dawn until dusk.
