Lorena Gae Miller Arnold, 91, Southern Pines, N.C., died unto the Lord on Feb. 27, 2025, at her home. Lorena was born on June 20, 1933, in Calhoun County, W.Va. After Lorena graduated from Alderson-Broadus in 1956 with a B.S. in nursing, she served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. In 1960, Lorena married Sgt. Conley “Bug” Arnold, whom she met in England when her car broke down. They raised their family in North Carolina and on Stoney Creek in Carter County, Tenn.
Lorena loved the Lord, her church, her family and the work she did as a chaplain. She never met a stranger and practiced hospitality in all areas of her life. She was an adventurer, poet and admirer of God’s creation.
Lorena was predeceased by Conley in 1981; parents, the Rev. Harry and Zelia Miller; sisters, Irene DeMoss and Norma Gene Gaston; brother, Donald Miller; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Reed Arnold.
She is survived by daughter, Judi; sons, H.C. “Buddy” (Beth), Scott and Joseph (Loretta); grandchildren, Kayla, Kristen, Jess, Emily, Sam and Nate; brothers, Richard (Jenny) and John (Kathy); and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral was held at Southern Pines First Baptist Church on March 2, with interment at Bethesda Cemetery in Southern Pines.
