The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Outreach RV will be throughout the region during the month of April, helping those needing assistance. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income households with their home energy bills.
To be fair and follow THDA’s guidelines, the system uses a priority point system to allocate its limited funds. Some who qualify for assistance may not receive enough points to be funded at this time. For those who qualify, a payment is sent directly to the recipient’s utility company and is credited to their bill. Payments can take 90 days or longer to be applied, so those applying are asked to please continue to pay their bill.
Priority is given to the low-income, energy burdened, disabled, elderly, homes with young children under 6, veterans and large households. Nationwide, LIHEAP provides energy assistance to roughly 6.7 million households.
In April, the LIHEAP Outreach RV will be at:
- ARM of Elizabethton, 714 West C St., Elizabethton, on April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Second Harvest at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, 1503 Riverview Dr., on April 9 at 8:30 a.m.
- Good Samaritan, 100 N. Roan St., Johnson City, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Second Harvest at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church, 8726 US 19-E, Roan Mountain, on April 25 at 12:30 p.m.
- Second Harvest at Community Fellowship, 430 E. 4th Ave., Watauga, April 28 at 9:30 a.m.
Persons may also visit one of the nine neighborhood service centers located in the eight-county area serviced by UETHDA for aid, or simply call 246-6180. LIHEAP is only one of many services the UETHDA offers to help with self-sufficiency.
