Demolition crews over the weekend tore down the former Fatz Café building at 980 Overmountain Drive to make way for a new RipTide Car Wash.
The site, which had been vacant since the Elizabethton Fatz location closed on Aug. 23, 2023, is set for redevelopment. It was one of 18 Fatz restaurants across the Southeast shuttered during a round of corporate closures.
RipTide Car Wash plans to build a 6,605-square-foot facility on the 1.8-acre lot. The project includes 59 total parking spaces, with 29 of those designated for vehicle queuing and 30 for vacuum stations.
The new car wash will bring additional service options to the busy retail area near West Elk Avenue and Overmountain Drive, adding to the continued commercial development in the corridor.
No timeline for construction completion has been officially announced.
