Officers with the Elizabethton Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Hudson Drive, according to Police Chief Jason Shaw.

Witnesses told officers that two individuals exchanged gunfire before fleeing the scene in separate vehicles. One person is believed to have been shot, though that individual has been named and has not yet been located.

Police are currently working two active scenes: one at the original shooting location and another involving a vehicle found elsewhere that is believed to be connected to the incident.

“There is no reason to believe there is an ongoing danger to the public from any of the persons involved in this,” Shaw said, noting that it appears the subjects may have been known to each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
