The following trails are open: Blue 2 Trail, Moonshiner’s Run Trail, Pegleg Mine Trail, Raven Rock Trail, and Tom Gray Trail.

Trails that are inaccessible and will be closed indefinitely include Bearwallow Trail, Chestnut Ridge Trail, Forest Road Trail, Riverside Trail, and Turkey Trot Trail.

Hampton Creek Cove State Natural Area also sustained extensive damage from the September 2024 storms. Once clear, park staff hopes to reopen the Elm Hollow Trail.

However, the Birchfield Trail will be closed indefinitely, according to the Roan Mountain State Park website.

There are approximately 12 miles of day-use hiking trails in Roan Mountain State Park and approximately three miles of mountain bike trails. Difficulty levels range from easy to strenuous. The Appalachian Trail is accessible by an eight-mile drive from the park.
