Sherry Nell Hensley Slagle

Sherry Nell Hensley Slagle, 77, of Elizabethton, went home to our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Doe River Baptist Church.

She was born to Rev. Willie Neil “Bill” Hensley and Opal Bunch Hensley on Dec. 21, 1947, in LaFollette, Tennessee.

Preceding Sherry in death was her husband of 42 years, Mike Slagle, in 2010; her parents; her sister-in-law, Vandalee Braden Hensley; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Archie Marie Slagle Lewis and Joe Lewis.

Surviving Sherry are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Julia Slagle, Watauga; her daughter and son-in-law, Terrina and Jimmy Ensor, Watauga; grandchildren, Kelsie Walker (Cory), Davis Ensor (Hannah Puckett), Isaac Slagle, and Kaitlyn Slagle; great-grandchildren, Hensley Walker and Sadie Walker; special nieces, Lecia Hensley Watson (Mark) and Jennifer Hensley Fletcher (Roger); brothers, Joe Hensley (Sandra) and Jerry Hensley (Connie); as well as many other special nephews, nieces, family, and friends that she truly cherished.

The family will hold a private graveside service to honor the life of Sherry.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Slagle, Anthony Hensley, Travis Hensley, Mark Watson, Davis Ensor, Isaac Slagle, and Cory Walker. Hensley Walker will serve as honorary pallbearer.

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Martha, Dina at Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice—Autumn, Allison, Nora, Whitney, Mary Ann, and Lori for their love and care, especially during her final days, and Alicia Pugh, NP.
