MORRISTOWN – The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia, warning of gusty winds and light snow accumulations in higher elevations.
Gusty winds will persist in the mountains and foothills through the early morning hours. Meanwhile, light snow accumulations are expected from late this afternoon into the overnight hours in the East Tennessee mountains and higher elevations of southwest Virginia.
Forecasters predict a dusting to 1 inch of snow in the higher elevations of southwest Virginia, while 1 to 3 inches are possible in the East Tennessee mountains. Isolated higher totals could occur on the highest peaks of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Residents and travelers in affected areas should prepare for potentially hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility in higher elevations. The National Weather Service advises caution for those driving through mountain passes and urges hikers to be aware of changing weather conditions.
