MORRISTOWN — The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of southwest North Carolina, East Tennessee, and southwest Virginia, warning of potential fire danger, high winds, and an increasing risk of severe storms.
Elevated fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon into early evening due to low relative humidity and southwest winds. Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning.
A High Wind Watch has also been issued for the mountain regions, with strong winds expected from late Friday through Saturday night.
Forecasters warn of severe weather potential late Saturday, with an increasing likelihood of a significant weather event, particularly along the Cumberland Plateau and into southeast Tennessee. Damaging winds are the primary concern, but large hail and tornadoes are also possible.
Additionally, multiple rounds of storms could bring flash flooding, especially west of Interstate 75. While some forecast details remain uncertain, officials urge residents to stay updated as confidence in the forecast continues to grow.
