Thomas Anthony Powers Sr., age 98, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Abundant Christian Living. Thomas was born on Aug. 20, 1926, in Rochester, N.Y., to the late Walter Powers and Helen Adams Powers.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a brother, James Powers; a sister, Marge Williamson; and a granddaughter, Tamsen Powers.
Thomas was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps as a corporal. He later retired as a union bricklayer. Thomas was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He would spend some of his free time playing golf on the Elizabethton Golf Course and was a prior member of the course.
Those left to cherish the memory of Thomas include his son, Thomas A. Powers Jr. and wife, Vicki, of Knoxville; his daughter, Patty Powers and husband, Robert McCormick, of Hardeeville, S.C.; his grandchildren, Tori Hughes and husband, Matthew, and Tessa Powers Hull and husband, Joseph; and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Thomas Anthony Powers Sr. will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside. Those wishing to be a part of this service are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 1:50 p.m. on Friday.
