Harley Carden, 96, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Abundant Christian Living in Johnson City. He was a son of the late William and Monnie Williams Carden and was born July 10, 1928, in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelline Taylor Carden.

Harley served in the Carter County School System for 38 years. He positively impacted many people through his wisdom, kindness and encouragement. He retired as the principal at Hunter Elementary School and was a member of the Carter County/Elizabethton Retired Teachers Association. He was a United States Korean War veteran, having served in the Army and the National Guard. He was a member of the Gideons and the American Legion and served as a deacon at Dungan Chapel Baptist Church for 60 years.

Those left to cherish his many memories include a son and daughter-in-law, Dalerick and Cathy Carden of Cumming, Georgia; and two granddaughters, Courtney Carden and Caroline Carden.

While his absence leaves a void in our hearts, we know he is with his wife and his Savior.

A service to honor Harley’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton with Pastor Teddy Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday, March 4.

The graveside service and interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Javy “Junior” Taylor, Dallas Williams, Hugh Buckles, David “Bo” Campbell, James Morley, Harold Lynn Arnold and Estill Taylor.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, 104 Jim Deal Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
