Charles James Waycaster, 51, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1973, in Dearborn, Michigan. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was a graduate of Hampton High School. He had worked at Mays Brothers in Johnson City as a machine operator. He was a member of the Tennessee State Reserve. He was an artist, loved to read and loved the outdoors. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia June Gobble Waycaster; a brother, Samuel Waycaster; and a sister, Ann Waycaster.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sally Campbell Waycaster; one son, Steven Waycaster and wife, Stephanie; one brother, Steve Waycaster and wife, Rita; one sister and adoptive mother, Lelia Burdge and husband, Gary; and his adopted brother and sister, Charlie Johnson and wife, Shilo, and Sasha Johnson. Other survivors include nephews Justin Waycaster and wife, Jessica, and Joseph Waycaster, as well as several other nieces and nephews. His brothers- and sisters-in-law include Donnie and Jenny Blevins, Ronnie and Patty Blevins, Kevin and Robin Campbell, and Micky Campbell. Special friends include Tammy and Kim Garland, Amber and Preston Belcher, Chris and Lisa Puttman, Jane and Gerald Buckles, and Paula Ensor.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. A service will be held at St. Elizabeth in Elizabethton at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, with Father Jesus Guerrero officiating. The service will be followed by interment at West Cemetery in Hampton. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
