MORRISTOWN – The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia as river flooding continues and a winter storm approaches the region.
Flooding remains a concern today in northeastern Tennessee and southwest Virginia, with rising river levels posing potential hazards. Residents in low-lying areas should remain alert for changing conditions.
Looking ahead, a winter storm is expected to bring precipitation into the Tennessee Valley beginning Tuesday night and continuing through Wednesday night. With a cold airmass in place, light snow accumulation is anticipated across much of East Tennessee and southwest Virginia—especially Wednesday morning.
Higher elevations may see more significant snowfall accumulation, with snow potentially continuing into Thursday morning. Additionally, very cold temperatures from Wednesday night through Thursday night could create hazardous travel conditions, even in areas receiving only light snowfall.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts, prepare for winter weather impacts, and exercise caution when traveling.
