The Elizabethton Cyclones were sitting pretty comfortable heading into the fourth quarter of action after being tied at the half with West Ridge in Blountville on Tuesday night.
The fourth quarter left Coach Lucas Honeycutt and his Cyclones with a migraine headache as the home-standing Wolves turned a nine-point deficit into a two-point victory, 55-53, with a 21-10 burst in the final period.
Led by Hudson Smith, the Cyclones managed to battle to a 24-24 halftime contest as neither team really managed to get a footing offensively.
Smith had eight at the half, while teammates Hudson Pate and Zack Wallin each contributed with six points apiece.
Wallin helped to push the Cyclones out front in the third quarter by netting six points. Nathan Bailey also helped to build a 43-34 lead by the third-quarter horn.
However, the fourth quarter brought a polar freeze on the Cyclones offensively as the Wolves managed to find the bottom of the basket often to come howling back to take the win in defending their home floor.
Wallin finished the game as the Cyclones’ leading scorer with 13, while Bailey and Smith finished the game with 10 points each.
Pate and Justius Wallin registered nine points apiece for Elizabethton, while Andrew Barnett had two in closing out the Cyclone scoring.
Horne and Bright paced the winners with 17 and 13, respectively.
