Johnny Ashley, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at The Waters of Roan Highlands in Roan Mountain. He was a son of the late John and Margie Montgomery Ashley and was born on May 29, 1946, in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his daughters, Patricia Ashley.
Johnny was a retired vintage air dealer/installer. He enjoyed classic cars and was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam era.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Judy Norman Ashley; two daughters, Tammy Ashley of Elizabethton and PJ Singleton (Tracy) of Roan Mountain; three grandchildren, Patricia Singleton, Jacob Singleton, and Nico Ashley; one step-grandchild, Jake Barnett (Holli) of Bluff City; two step-great-grandchildren, Laken Barnett and Jayli Barnett, both of Bluff City; and a sister, Helen Nave (Joe) of Elizabethton.
A service to honor Johnny’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Johnson and Pastor Mark Potter officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Loren Harris and Mr. Jeff Snyder. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section). Active pallbearers will be Tracy Singleton, Jake Barnett, Jacob Singleton, Nico Ashley, Dean Hill, and Joe Nave. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny’s church family at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church, his classic car group, the staff of Gentiva Hospice, and the staff at The Waters of Roan Highlands. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. on Friday.
