VFW Post 2166 and the Post Auxiliary, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, will hold a food distribution event for veterans and their families in need on Friday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. The distribution will take place at the VFW Post, located at 2001 West Elk Ave.

Veterans attending the event are asked to make room in their trunk for the food box and to pop their trunk upon arrival. Volunteers will load the boxes directly into vehicles to minimize contact and ensure the safety of all participants.

In the event of inclement weather, the food distribution will follow the Elizabethton City Schools schedule. If city schools are closed due to weather conditions, the event will be canceled.

Second Harvest has requested an estimated number of food boxes needed. Veterans planning to attend should call Shaun Smith at the Carter County Veterans Service Office at 542-1824 to sign up. Advance sign-ups will help organizers ensure there is enough food available.
