Janice Harr Murray, 83, of Johnson City, Tenn., formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at NHC in Kingsport. Janice was born in Elizabethton to the late Elbert Frederick Harr and Cora Ellen Ward Harr. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Wayne Murray Sr., and a brother, J.C. Harr.
Janice was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Along with her husband, Janice was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Earlier in life, Janice had worked as a florist and had a flair for decorating, so it just came natural to her to serve on the decorating committee. She also served on the welcoming committee of Grace Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly and supported her husband in the construction industry. Janice was an Elizabethton Cyclone fan for life and loved that Betsy Band!
Those left to cherish Janice include two sons, H. Wayne Murray Jr. and wife Cortney of Richmond Hill, Ga., and Anthony F. Murray and wife Carrie of Kingsport; three grandsons, Colin Murray, Jackson Murray and Owen Murray; a brother, Wayne (Rachel) Harr of Watauga, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Ann (Richard) Ford of Morristown; three special nieces, Tammy Markland, Shannon Harr and Heather Cole; a special great-niece and nephews, Kallie Cole, Holston Cole and Cooper Cole.
A service to celebrate Janice’s life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 9, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Dr. Travis Tyler officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Music will be under the direction of Laura Seagroves.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Markland, Zack Markland, Josh Markland, Keith Cole, Russell Vines and Austin Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Janice’s Grace Baptist Church family, neighbors in Elizabethton and Johnson City, her extended Alderson family, Mamaw and Ryan Alderson and Garry and Nina Myers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
