Carter County Sheriff’s Department reports arrests

The following arrests have been reported by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office: 

Jan. 18, 2025

Public Intoxication
A woman was arrested early Saturday morning for public intoxication after deputies found her stumbling near Moreland Gap Road.
Deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person and later located Crystal K. Jones in a woodline near the roadway. She was reportedly unsteady on her feet, slurring her words, and wearing only one shoe. Witnesses told officers this was unusual behavior for Jones.
Deputy Nicholas Gass determined Jones was intoxicated and posed a danger to herself. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

DUI Arrest
A man was arrested early Saturday morning on a DUI charge after deputies observed erratic driving on Highway 19E.
Deputy Dalton Taylor conducted a traffic stop on a gold Toyota Tacoma that was swerving between lanes. The driver, Christopher D. Greenwell, admitted to consuming alcohol and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
Deputies found four beers in the center console and a partial bottle of vodka in the truck bed. Greenwell consented to a blood test and was taken into custody without incident.

Warrant Arrest
A man with an outstanding warrant was taken into custody early Saturday in a coordinated effort between local law enforcement agencies.
Sgt. Joshua Peters met with the Bristol Police Department to take custody of Mitchell Stauffer, who had an active warrant from Carter County Circuit Court. Stauffer was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Jan. 17, 2025

Burglary Warrant Arrest
Deputies arrested a man on a burglary warrant at a residence on Highway 19E on Friday morning.
Deputy Justin Ludlow made contact with Samuel Lee Garrison at 8512 Highway 19E. Garrison had an active warrant from Carter County General Sessions Court and was taken into custody without incident.

Jan. 16, 2025

Public Intoxication
A man was arrested Thursday night after deputies found him lying in the road on Campbell Rash Road.
Deputy James Rhymer responded to the call and found Christopher Allen Price highly intoxicated. Price stated he had no one to care for him after making his wife leave.
Deputies determined Price was a danger to himself and arrested him for public intoxication. He was later checked by medical staff at the Carter County Detention Center.

Failure to Appear Arrest
A woman was arrested on a failure-to-appear warrant following a warrant service at a Dollar General in Telford.
Deputy Thomas Hill met with a Greene County deputy to take Desirae N. Jones into custody. Jones had an active warrant from Carter County Juvenile Court and was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Warrant Arrest
A man was arrested Thursday afternoon on a violation of probation warrant.
Deputy Jonah Roberts transported James Brandon Bradley from Washington County to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, where he was served with an active warrant for violation of probation. Bradley was placed in custody without incident.

Probation Violation Arrest
A woman was arrested in Johnson City on a probation violation warrant.
Lt. Justin Burchfield met with Johnson City police to take custody of Jessica Suzanne Norris. Norris had an active warrant for violation of probation from Carter County Criminal Court and was transported to the Detention Center without incident.

 

Woman arrested on failure to appear warrant
Sgt. Steve Tipton arrested Christina Jane Morton on Jan. 15 for failure to appear in a misdemeanor case. Morton was taken into custody at Butler Bridge after being transferred from a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy. She was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Man taken into custody for failure to appear
Lt. Christopher Peek arrested Seth Allen Cornelius on Jan. 14 for failure to appear in a misdemeanor case. Cornelius was taken into custody at the Shell Station on Elizabethton Highway following coordination with the Bristol Police Department. He was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Probation violation arrest made in Elizabethton
Deputy Kevin Kemp arrested William Charles Cable Jr. on Jan. 14 for violation of probation. Cable was taken into custody at the Washington County Detention Center on an active warrant for violation of probation and transported to the Carter County Detention Center, where he was booked without incident.

Man arrested on child support attachment
Deputy Joshua Smith arrested Richard Wayne York Jr. on Jan. 14 on a warrant for failure to pay child support. York was taken into custody at Sinking Creek Baptist Church following coordination with Washington County authorities. He was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Elizabethton man arrested for probation violation
Deputy Heath Taylor arrested Jeffery William Wilson Jr. on Jan. 13 for violation of probation. Wilson was taken into custody at Sycamore Shoals on an active warrant and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Man charged with domestic violence in Watauga
Deputy Storm Scalf arrested Dakota Christian Ashley on Jan. 11 for domestic violence. Officers responded to a report of a suicidal male at a residence on Cripple Creek Loop, where Ashley had been drinking with friends. During the incident, Ashley struck his mother in the face with a closed fist, causing a laceration to her lip. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Trespassing call leads to failure to appear arrest
Deputy Donovan Bemiller arrested Billy R. Stines on Jan. 11 for failure to appear in a misdemeanor case. Stines was found lying on the floor of the U.S. Post Office lobby in Hampton and stated he had entered to escape the weather. A warrant check confirmed outstanding charges. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Woman arrested for failure to appear in Johnson City
Deputy James Rhymer arrested Megan D. Cline on Jan. 10 for failure to appear in a misdemeanor case. Cline was taken into custody at Sinking Creek Baptist Church following coordination with Washington County authorities. She was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Traffic stop leads to child support arrest
Deputy Jared Shelton arrested Derrick Justin Birchfield on Jan. 9 on two counts of failure to pay child support. Birchfield was stopped for an equipment violation on Highway 19E near RediMart. A warrant check confirmed outstanding charges, and he was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Failure to appear arrest in Watauga
Sgt. Tyler Holsclaw arrested Bradley Joseph Milhorn on Jan. 7 for failure to appear in Carter County Circuit Court. Milhorn was taken into custody at a residence on Cripple Creek Loop and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Elizabethton man arrested for criminal trespass
Deputy Matthew Lyle arrested Kermit Milton Hinkle III on Jan. 7 for criminal trespass. Hinkle had previously been trespassed from a residence on Commodore Ave. but returned to the property and refused to leave. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Felony failure to appear arrest made in Johnson City
Sgt. Cory Locklear arrested Daniel Banks on Jan. 7 for failure to appear in a felony case. Banks was taken into custody at Sinking Creek Baptist Church following coordination with Washington County authorities. He was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Probation violation arrest in Johnson City
Deputy Kevin Kemp arrested Cody Scott Lyons on Jan. 6 for violation of probation. Lyons was taken into custody following coordination with Johnson City Police Department officers. He was transported to the Carter County Detention Center and booked without incident.

Man arrested for probation violation in Elizabethton
Deputy Hunter Skalecki arrested Donnie J. Blevins Jr. on Jan. 5 for violation of probation. Officers responded to a trespassing call at a residence on Highway 91, where Blevins was found inside the residence. A warrant check confirmed outstanding charges. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

Woman arrested for violating order of protection
Deputy Thomas Hill arrested Jessica Dawn Forbes on Jan. 5 for violating an order of protection. Officers responded to a residence on Elizabethton Highway for a domestic dispute. Investigation revealed that Forbes was under an active no-contact order. She was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
