Ida Goodwin Hinkle, 93, of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Irvin Goodwin, born at Hampton, Tenn., and Katherine Heppe Goodwin. Ida was born in Manteno, Kankakee County, Ill., and in the first grade moved to adjoining north county Peotone, Will County, Ill. She was raised on a farm and graduated from Peotone Elementary School and Peotone Community High School. After graduation she came to her father’s home community and married James “Buster” Hinkle. Places locally employed were Gurney’s Confectionary, Anderson Supermarkets, and Farm Service Agency, from which she retired and maintained an agricultural concept.

Ida was an avid Elizabethton Star reader, listener to WBEJ, and a Chanel 5 WCYB viewer. She was well-informed in sports with Hampton being first and then surrounding schools next, proud of players and coaches. She was an active member of Union Baptist Church, serving with the youth, intermediates, and choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James “Buster” Hinkle, and 10 siblings. All six brothers were in the U.S.A. Military in World War II.

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Timothy (Theresa) Hinkle, Elizabethton; daughter, Tamra Harris and Elvin Brown, Gray; three grandchildren, Jamie Hinkle, Charles Hinkle and Chad Harris; brothers-in-law, Jerry White, Ron Pierce, Charles and McArthur Hinkle; a foster niece and nephew, Karen and Jamie Matherly; and numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends, Brian Beckett and Laurette Brown.

According to her wishes, her body is being donated to Quillen College of Medicine for medical purposes. There will be no burial service.
