Work begins Jan. 27 on flood-damaged community ballfields

The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, Boyd Sports, and the Elizabethton Carter County Baseball and Softball Association are proud to announce that restoration work on the Cat Island Softball Fields will officially begin on Saturday, Jan. 27. This long-awaited project follows significant flood damage to the fields and represents a major milestone in revitalizing this cherished community space.

The restoration will not only repair the flood-damaged ballfields but also enhance them, ensuring they remain a safe and enjoyable venue for athletes and families for years to come. The initiative underscores the dedication of the local community and the generosity of several key partners.

“We are thrilled to begin this project and are grateful for the partnership and commitment of so many local businesses and individuals,” said David Nanney, director of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation. “This project will help restore a vital community asset, allowing families to come together and enjoy recreational sports in a safe environment.”

Special acknowledgement is extended to Jeremy Boler, vice president of Boyd Sports, and Kiva Fuller, general manager of the Elizabethton River Riders, for their leadership and contributions. They have played a crucial role in organizing donations of equipment, turf supplies, a new scoreboard, and labor from Boyd employees, helping make this project possible.

The City of Elizabethton, Boyd Sports, and the Elizabethton Carter County Baseball and Softball Association also extend heartfelt thanks to the following businesses and organizations for their invaluable support:
