Carter County School Board honors teachers at January meeting

The Carter County School Board recognized several outstanding educators during its Jan. 16 meeting, honoring teachers who received tenure as well as those named District-Wide Teachers of the Year and Novice Teachers of the Year.
The following teachers were recognized for receiving tenure during the 2024-2025 school year:
- Central Elementary: April Sammons and Vanessa Sparks
- Hampton Elementary: Natasha Townsend and Rachel Williams
- Happy Valley Elementary: Terri Gouge and Meagan Wallace
- Happy Valley Middle School: Matthew Peters
- Happy Valley High School: Justin Kilby
- Unaka Elementary: Christy Blackburn
- Unaka High School: Cody Ayers and O’Brien Bennett
- District-Wide: Andrea Barbe
- Cloudland Elementary: Penny Watts
The board also celebrated the District-Wide Teachers of the Year, recognizing the exceptional contributions of:
- Grades Pre-K-4: Hannah Hendrix, Hunter Elementary
- Grades 5-8: Jordan Fenner, Happy Valley Middle School
- Grades 9-12: Holly Houston, Cloudland High School
Additionally, the District-Wide Novice Teachers of the Year were honored for their dedication and impact early in their careers:
- Grades Pre-K-4: Jessica Wagers, Central Elementary
- Grades 5-8: Joseph Fleenor, Cloudland Elementary
- Grades 9-12: Clinton Reeser, Happy Valley High School
The school board expressed gratitude to all the honorees for their commitment to excellence in education and their contributions to the students and families of Carter County.
