Elizabethton Police Department, regional agencies collaborate in Operation Street Sweeper

The Elizabethton Police Department, in partnership with the First Judicial District of Tennessee Drug Task Force – comprised of agents from the Mountain City Police Department, Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson City Police Department, and Jonesborough Police Department – conducted Operation Street Sweeper on Friday, Jan. 3, and Saturday, Jan. 4, within the City of Elizabethton.
During the operation, officers conducted a total of 140 traffic stops for various moving and non-moving violations.
As a result of those stops, significant law enforcement actions were taken, including the seizure of the following:
- 64.21 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 43 diverted prescription Gabapentin tablets
- 33 diverted prescription Morphine tablets
- 33 diverted prescription Alprazolam tablets
- 3 diverted prescription Suboxone tablets
- 2 diverted prescription Clonazepam tablets
- 1 diverted prescription Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine capsule
- 12.5 grams of suspected marijuana
- 1 prohibited weapon
The operation led to the arrest of nine individuals in connection to the confiscated items. Additionally, eight criminal summonses were issued in lieu of continued custody for various drug and traffic offenses.
Additional Charges Filed
Further charges stemming from the operation included:
- 3 outstanding warrants served for Failure to Appear
- 10 counts of Driving While License Suspended or Revoked
- 10 Schedule Drug Violations
- 5 violations of the Financial Responsibility Law
- 4 charges of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia
- 20 other moving and non-moving traffic violations
The operation underscored the collaborative efforts of the Elizabethton Police Department and its regional partners to ensure the safety and security of Elizabethton and surrounding communities by actively targeting criminal activity and removing dangerous substances from the streets.
