Newly reelected Elizabethton Municipal Judge Jason Holly said Tuesday he has filed a petition to dissolve the temporary suspension of his law license and expects an order of reinstatement to be signed soon.
Holly said by email Tuesday night the Supreme Court of Tennessee’s Board of Professional Responsibility had filed the order of reinstatement that day and it was awaiting a judge’s signature, which he expected to be done today.
Sandy Garrett, chief disciplinary counsel for the Supreme Court of Tennessee’s Board of Professional Responsibility, said Tuesday was her understanding that Holly had filed the petition, but referred questions to Holly and the Supreme Court clerk’s office. A form email to the clerk’s office is awaiting an answer.
Holly was reelected as Elizabethton city judge in November despite a temporary suspension of his law license; however, the suspension has prevented his holding court. On Dec. 12, Elizabethton City Council unanimously approved 1st Judicial District Criminal Court Judge Stacy L. Street as acting city judge.
On Monday, the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court issued a public censure of Holly for failing to formally respond to three complaints. A public censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney.
