To the Editor:

Man has made many seemingly great scientific achievements in the last 100 years or so. We have the special law of relativity, statistical mechanics, astro-physics, fracture mechanics, biomechanics, and quantum mechanics, to name a few. We have broken the sound barrier, gone to the moon and sent probes relatively deep into space but when we peer into space via the Hubble or similar telescopes we see that the planet earth, indeed our complete solar system, is like a single grain of sand on vast seashores.

We speculate on what we see but every time we try to develop some new law, theory or set of equations to describe new sightings, we find they are violated when we peer further into the vastness of space.

Even exploration of the moon proved that some of our theories were wrong. The thin layer of dust and the higher than expected temperature under the surface indicated that the moon is a relatively young heavenly body; i.e., not millions of years old. If we are truthful with ourselves, we realize that all we know; all the theories, laws, equations, etc.; are but a very minor special case of the General Laws of God’s Creation.

These General Laws of Creation are beyond man’s understanding. This is a humbling realization that should put pride and arrogance far from our meager minds. We instead should be thankful that God has given us the ability to understand those things revealed to us while keeping in mind His command to have dominion over the earth. If only we could achieve that dominion in an environment of love (agape) characterized by peace and respect for one another instead of hate and greed embedded in a prideful nature.
