Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I was blessed to spend some time with my family recently and ventured up to Beech Mountain, N.C. The roads were mostly clear, but fresh snow had fallen that morning at an elevation of about 5,500 feet, leaving everything powder-white. All the trees were brilliant white, and the cold, still air made the scene look like something from a movie set – but better, because it was real. Some family members visiting from Florida and New Orleans were especially awestruck by the cold and the beauty of the winter wonderland.

While we were waiting to slide down the mountain on round rubber tubes (a plan that didn’t quite work out), I discovered a small stand of trees where no one had walked. Each step I took was the only set of footprints on that part of the mountain. In that moment, I felt like an explorer, though I didn’t have to journey deep into the Carolina mountains to feel that way. My footsteps were the only ones in the new snow.

In this new year, may we find ourselves on fresh trails, making footsteps where no one has gone before or where we personally have yet to tread. I believe God can help us do just that.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. Ephesians 3:20

There are places God can take us that are like fresh snow. It may not require a long journey, but it will involve making fresh tracks. Perhaps it’s inviting a neighbor to church, visiting a nursing home just because, or volunteering for a ministry at church. Step out and try something new with God’s blessing, and before you know it, you’ll be making fresh footprints in the snow. You’ll be doing something unique and powerful because God has placed you there at just the right time.

May this year be full of “fresh tracks.”
