The Elizabethton Fire Department was preparing to find their way to the Elizabethton Christmas Parade on Saturday afternoon, but a fire call soon changed the course of the afternoon for the department.
Around 3:45 p.m., a call came in of a double-wide mobile home that was fully engulfed in flames at 2140 West G St. Upon arrival, firemen went to work battling the flames, which were licking up all around the structure.
The firemen were able to bring the fire under control, but not before the home was “pretty much a total loss,” according to Assistant Fire Chief Andy Hardin. Once the flame was knocked down, firemen continued to investigate for areas of hotspots throughout the home and underneath the structure as well.
Hardin said that a heater is believed to be what started the fire. There was no one at home when the blaze broke out, and no injuries were reported.
The Elizabethton Police Department, the Elizabethton Electric System and the Carter County Rescue Squad responded to the fire call as well.
