Lady Highlanders have little trouble dispatching Johnson Co.

Coach Matt Birchfield’s Cloudland Lady Highlanders boarded the bus Thursday for a road trip to Mountain City and a battle with the Johnson Co. Lady Longhorns.
The scenic trip did the girls from Roan Mountain well, as the Lady Highlanders brought home a 58-34 victory.
The first half was a closely played contest, with Cloudland managing to build a nine-point lead by outscoring the host Lady ‘Horns 23-14.
Makinna Shell was lights out in the half, tallying 13 of the 23 points scored by Cloudland. Abby Clawson added six points to help her team extend the lead.
Desirea Robinson kept the Lady Longhorns in the game early on, scoring seven first-half points.
The Lady Highlanders turned up the offense in the final 16 minutes of play, outscoring the Lady ‘Horns 35-20 to seal the win.
Shell went on to score a game-high 17 points to lead Cloudland. Clawson continued her solid play in the second half, finishing with 12 points.
Cloudland had nine players score in the game with other scorers including Regan Blair (7), Savannah McCoury (6), Layken Blair and Jayla Harper with five each, and two points apiece from Eowyn McCoury, Reagan Turbyfill, and Abriella Jones.
The Lady Longhorns were led by a team-high eight points from Robinson. Izzy Thompson chipped in with six points in the loss.
Other scorers for Johnson Co. were Mackenzie McClain (5), Abby Dickens and Chasity Osborne with four points apiece, Ella Icenhour (2), Aubrey Shaw (2), Shayla Sileo (2), and Mimi Zaldivar (1).
