Hazardous Weather Outlook issued for east Tennessee and surrounding areas

MORRISTOWN — The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for today, covering portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia.

Rain is expected to develop before daybreak, transitioning to snow shortly afterward, particularly in areas north of the Interstate 40 corridor. Brief periods of moderate to heavy snowfall may occur during the morning hours.

Snow Accumulations:

  • Elevations of 1,000 feet or more: Up to half an inch, primarily on grassy areas or elevated surfaces.
  • Elevations above 2,500 feet: Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible.
