JOHNSON CITY – During this holiday season, The Salvation Army Johnson City is ramping up efforts to support those most in need and has received an essential kettle match donation of $10,000 from Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC, BCS Wealth Management and First Covenant Trust & Advisors. The companies will help to ensure that kettle donations are high this Friday, Dec. 6, by volunteering to serve at six locations around Johnson City.
The Salvation Army in Johnson City provides over 17,000 nights of stay to shelter guests each year, serving them over 51,000 meals and 17,000 snacks, providing clothing and bedding as needed, and laundry facilities. Guests receive case management or coaching during their stay to promote finding a sustainable, independent housing plan upon exit. A variety of social, educational and recreational activities are included.
During the winter months, The Salvation Army provides inclement cold weather shelter for up to 25 additional individuals as part of the White Flag program. A robust relationship with community partners helps to ensure that any overflow registered at The Salvation Army can be sheltered at a partner location for the night.
In addition, The Salvation Army provides food boxes and assistance with utilities and rent as available to our neighbors in need year-round and Angel Tree gift assistance for families at the holidays.
“We are very grateful for Blackburn, Childers and Steagall’s tradition of providing a kettle match donation the first Friday of December and their faithfulness in continuing to support The Salvation Army’s work to do the most good,” said Major Maureen Diffley, corps officer. “The holiday season brings unique challenges for many in our community, but it also brings out the generosity of those who can help.”
Funds raised during the holiday season support initiatives like the Angel Tree program, which provides clothes and toys to children and teens. Donations also help provide year-round aid such as rent, utility, and housing assistance for individuals facing financial hardship.
