The Salvation Army is looking for dedicated volunteers throughout the Tri-Cities to help spread holiday cheer and make a difference in the community by signing up to be volunteer bellringers this season. Bellringing offers a unique and meaningful way to give back, with all proceeds from the familiar Red Kettles staying right here in the Tri-Cities to provide vital assistance for families and individuals in need. The funds raised help support programs for food, shelter, and Christmas assistance such as toys and clothing for children and seniors.

With the need for Salvation Army services increasing significantly this year, the organization is turning to the community for support. Higher prices for essentials like food, rent, utilities, and gasoline are making it difficult for local families to make ends meet. Many are forced to choose between paying bills or buying food for their family. Major Brooks Gilliam, local corps officer of The Salvation Army in Bristol, shared why this year’s Red Kettle campaign is so important, “The demand for our services has grown as many local families feel the pressure of rising costs. We are doing everything we can to help everyone who reaches out, but our resources are stretched thin. By volunteering as a bellringer, you can make a tangible impact for those in need this holiday season, helping to ensure that no family has to go without food or shelter during this special time of year.”

Bellringing shifts have already begun and will continue through Christmas Eve. Each shift is just two hours, and volunteers are welcome to sign up for as many as they would like. This activity is perfect for individuals as well as groups, including church groups, civic organizations, and families with children. Kids especially enjoy ringing the bell and wishing people a ‘Merry Christmas’ at the kettle!

Organizations or businesses can also support the cause by “Adopting a Kettle” for a day. This involves sending volunteers in two-hour shifts throughout the day to cover a specific kettle location.
