Lori Jean (Sanders) Adkins, 51, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed from this life on November 19, 2024. She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, George Adkins, and son, Matthew and daughter Rebecca. She is also survived by her mother, Gloria (Gary) Hunter; sisters, Melissa (Tim) Storey, Debbie Steidl and Sherry Farris; sister-in-law, Debbie (Galen) Anderson; grandmother, Christine Slate; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Lori was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Eugene “Gene” Sanders; in-laws, Kelly and Ann Adkins; and brother, Gary Sanders.
Lori was born on December 6, 1972 and grew up in Hermitage, Tenn., where she graduated from McGavock High School and attended Lebanon Road Church of Christ. She started her college education at Tennessee Tech where she met the love of her life. She married George on August 6, 1994 and then finished her Math degree at ETSU.
Lori loved being a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. She also enjoyed working for the Johnson City School system as a Special Education Assistant. All the kids loved Mrs. Adkins.
Lori was a faithful member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Her love for Christ was shown through her works, especially in teaching Bible classes and serving at High Rock Bible Camp.
Lori loved to camp with her family and friends, and was always up for a beach trip. She was an avid baker, well known for her cakes. More than anything, Lori loved her family.
A celebration of Lori’s life will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 24, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Todd Houston and Mr. Dennis Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Chris Jordan, Hadley Townsend, Jason Duncan, Josh Johnson, Chris Mosley and John Burleson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday.
