Lady Eagles take flight in win over Cloudland

The Lady Highlanders of Cloudland tipped off their 2024-25 season on the road Thursday, taking on the always-tough Lady Eagles of Cosby. Despite building a first-half lead, Cloudland fell into a second-half offensive lull, allowing Cosby to soar to a 61-50 victory.

Makenzie Street shone in the first half, tallying 17 of Cloudland’s 30 points. Makinna Shell added five, helping the Lady Highlanders to a 30-27 halftime advantage.

Meanwhile, Cosby’s Shylee Shelton kept the Lady Eagles close with 15 points in the first half. Azariah Spurgeon added eight, and Megan Miller chipped in six for the home team.

The second half saw Cloudland struggle offensively, managing just 10 points in each quarter. Cosby took control with an 18-point third period, surging ahead by five entering the final quarter. Spurgeon and Miller each scored eight points in the pivotal third frame.

Cosby sealed the win with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Cloudland by four. Shelton led all scorers with 24 points, while Spurgeon and Miller added 16 and 14, respectively. Addy Woods contributed seven points for the Lady Eagles.

Street finished with a team-high 19 points for Cloudland, though only two came in the second half. Shell scored 16, including 11 in the second half. Abby Clawson added seven, while Eowyn McCoury and Abriella Jones each had three points. Layken Blair scored two.
