Vera Belle Addington, 65, of Johnson City, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Johnson City Medical Center. Vera was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late John Mack Evans Sr. and Sabra Joyce Parsons Evans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Lynn Addington, and a special friend, Kathryn Dugger-Edwards.

Vera graduated from Elizabethton High School with the class of 1977. She retired as the manager at the Moose Lodge in Ashland, Ohio and had also worked as purchasing manager at JBR. Vera was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, all sports and most of all spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish Vera’s memories include her daughter, Joyce Addington-Shanks and her husband Adam Shanks of Johnson City; her granddaughter, Jocelyn Addington of Johnson City; a great-grandson, Jack; a brother, John M. Evans Jr. of Johnson City; her father-in-law, Jim Addington of Huntsville, Ala.; Desi Sarelis of Staten Island, N.Y., whom she thought of as a daughter; her special friends, Jerrie Sue Bowers, Joi Dance, Janet Widner and Claudia Shanks; her beloved cat, Ray; and her extended family.

A service to celebrate Vera’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Reverend Timothy Holder officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Elizabethton.
