Elizabethton Parks & Recreation regrets to announce that this year’s Skate by the Doe Presented by Carter County Bank ice skating rink will not open for the 2024 season. Due to the recent effects of Hurricane Helene and its significant damage to the parks, the challenging decision was made to cancel this beloved seasonal event.

The decision to cancel was made by Elizabethton City Staff to ensure the safety and accessibility of the area for future events. “We’re focusing our attention on the parks that have been devastated by Hurricane Helene,” said David Nanney, Parks and Recreation Director. “Our team is focused on making sure our parks are safe, clean and accessible for the community, and this year, we are prioritizing critical restoration projects. While we understand the community’s excitement for the ice rink, the scope of ongoing clean up and restoration efforts requires our full attention and resources this season.”

Elizabethton Parks & Recreation is working on putting together holiday activities and events to continue bringing seasonal joy to the community.
