The TSSAA playoffs open Friday with Happy Valley (7-1, 4-1 conference) — Region 1-2A runner-up — hosting Region 2-2A third-place Polk County (4-6, 3-2 conference). The Wildcats are currently on a four-game losing streak to end the regular season.
“From a physical standpoint, they are probably the biggest team we’ve seen this year,” Warriors head coach Jason Jarrett said. “They are huge. Their skill players are big, strong and physical, and the linemen are very big. They are a typical Region 2 team that has a lot of competitive teams that play in the Knoxville area.”
Happy Valley has not been scored on in three consecutive weeks and gave up just 58 points this season. They are led by junior quarterback Gabe McDougald and sophomore fullback Tyler Berry, with Jamie Esterline and Lane Parker also in the backfield offensively and defensively.
Game time is 7 p.m.
