Leading the way for the Lady Cyclones was freshman phenom Vella Nave, who finished in second place, bested only by David Crockett senior Maggie Bellamy.

Nave finished with a time of 20:15.40 to earn second place. Other Lady Cyclone finishers were:

  • Helen Hackett – 21:29.80
  • Jasey Hyatt – 22:29.70
  • Jane Hackett – 23:08.20
  • Madeline Isaacs – 23:19.50
  • Grace Artz – 25:05.60 (season best)
  • Amberlin Grindstaff – 26:28.00
  • Madeline Schumann – 29:28.60

The Cyclone boys team finished in fifth place, just five points away from qualifying for state as a team, as the race was highly competitive and came down to minuscule seconds.

After the top four teams are set, the top five individuals in the race are also selected to compete at the state championship, which is challenging to achieve with 116 competitors vying for these spots.

Two seniors from the Cyclones qualified individually, as Jerry Behrmann and Cooper Chinault will finish out their high school careers with an opportunity to earn a state medal.

Also qualifying for the state championship was Hampton High School junior Jackson Smith, who finished with a time of 17:41.00. Other Cyclone finishers were:

  • William Snodgrass – 19:01.30
  • Cooper Jack – 19:12.20
  • Louis Trivette – 20:34.90
  • Joubran El Helou – 21:52.30

Cyclone head coach Matthew Campbell praised his team’s efforts.

“I am proud of our runners that are going to state with their huge accomplishments and proud of the season the Cyclones have had,” said Campbell. “I am excited to see them compete at the state championship.”
