Barbara Jean Hartley, 80, of Elizabethton, passed away at her home unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Barbara was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Ed and Martha Allen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hartley, of 48 years. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Betty Stevens and Judy Hansford, and also a brother, Jimmy Allen.

Barbara was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a faithful member of By Faith Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Dale Hartley of Hampton and Dana Hartley of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Justin Hartley of Alaska, Jason Hartley of Elizabethton, and Jennifer Shephard of Elizabethton (and husband Zachary Shephard); three great-grandchildren, Carly Hartley of Bristol and Gabriella and Magnolia Shephard of Elizabethton; one sister, Eddy Tolley of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Services will be held on Friday, November 1, at 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 2, at Lyons Chapel Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
