Hampton falls to Eagleton, eliminated from conference title race

Souders/Star Correspondent The Bulldogs' Peyton Townsend (2) nearly comes down with the 50/50 ball in the end zone on a fourth-and-long play, but Eagleton defender Lane Cope (12) swatted the ball away at the last second midway through the first quarter. The Royals’ Navaar Macdonald-Risner was also involved in the play.

Senior running back Dom Burleson rushed for three touchdowns, amassing 219 yards on 37 carries, but Hampton fell to the Royals. Quarterback Nathan Clemmer passed for two scores and ran for another, as Eagleton dropped Hampton to 3-5 on the season (3-2 in conference play). With the loss, Hampton is eliminated from the 1-2A conference title race.
Hampton will travel to South Greene next week. Colton Relation rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown, helping the Royals improve to 5-4 (3-2 in conference play).
