Joan Carolyn Crow, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away on October 13, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born on July 14, 1938, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to John William Jones and Verna Marie Camden. After the passing of her mother, Joan was adopted by Elizabeth Jones and raised by her father and adopted mother.

In 1972, Joan married James Edward “Ed” Crow, with whom she shared a full and loving life. Together, they raised her son, Stephen Jones, along with her stepchildren, John David Crow, Susan Lorraine “Lori” Crow, and James Edward “Eddie” Crow Jr. 

Joan pursued a career in nursing, beginning her journey as an RN in the United States Air Force. She continued her service in various clinics and hospitals across Florida and Tennessee, serving as hospital supervisor, clinical instructor for LPN students, and culminating in her role as Director of Nursing at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Elizabethton, Tenn. In her free time, Joan enjoyed participating in the Elizabethton chapter of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization and the Ocean Springs Poetry Society; she held leadership positions in both organizations.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; her brother John Jones; and her stepson Eddie.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, survived by her brothers, Ross and Robert Jones; her children, Stephen, John David, and Lori; and her grandchildren, Susannah, Josh, Austin, Sara, Anna, Kaitlin, and Taylor. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Parker.

Her warmth, kindness, and commitment to others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A memorial service will be held at the Mountain Home National Cemetery on October 25 at 1 p.m. to celebrate her life and the impact she made on those around her.
