GREENEVILLE — The body of Boone McCrary, 32, of Greeneville, was recovered today from a creek feeding into the Nolichucky River near W. Allen’s Bridge Road in Greeneville. A search team located McCrary’s body around 2 p.m. on October 1, 2024.
The incident occurred Friday evening, when McCrary, a female occupant, and a Labrador retriever launched a boat into the river near Bird’s Bridge just after 7 p.m. The boat was swept into the bridge and capsized, sending the occupants into the water. The female occupant was safely rescued, but McCrary, his dog, and the boat were carried downstream by the raging river current.
On Sunday afternoon, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) officers located and retrieved the boat and the dog. Unfortunately, the dog did not survive.
TWRA expressed prayers and condolences to McCrary’s family and loved ones. The incident remains under investigation.
