Due to the remnants of Hurricane Helene passing through Carter County, both primary water facilities located in Hampton and Valley Forge, which supply 75 percent of water to the city, failed on Friday, Sept. 27.

The Elizabethton Water Resources team worked through Friday night and all day Saturday to restore operations at the Hampton facility. The plant was severely impacted by 46 inches of standing water, which had to be removed before crews could begin cleaning and repairing any damaged electronics.

Customers may experience air in their water lines, and it could take several hours for water pressure to return to normal levels.

Crews will begin repairs at the Valley Forge plant on Sunday and will also address numerous leaks and other system damage caused by the storm. The Water Resources team asks residents to report any leaks by calling 423-297-2893, a temporary number in use until the system returns to normal operations.

Officials are working diligently to restore full water service as quickly as possible and appreciate the community’s patience during this recovery process.
