Widespread damage to the electrical system has been reported in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm that brought steady winds exceeding 50 mph and even stronger gusts. The storm has left the community grappling with structural damage, stormwater issues, flooding, erosion, transportation access challenges, and significant loss of utility services.
Elizabethton Electric initiated restoration efforts immediately following the storm. Arborist crews are actively working to cut and remove tree debris to aid in the repair and rebuilding of damaged powerlines and electrical infrastructure.
In addition to local teams, multiple powerline worker crews have joined the effort to restore the electrical system. As of the latest updates, approximately 74.1% of customer accounts have had power restored. All electrical substations and circuit breakers have been energized, and efforts are ongoing to fully restore the electrical system.
Elizabethton Electric expressed its appreciation to customers for their patience during this challenging time. Crews will continue to work around the clock until the full restoration of power is achieved.
Residents are urged to report any hazards, including downed powerlines or tree debris, as repair efforts progress across the region.
