Carter County Mayor Patty Woodby announced on Sunday morning that schools in the Carter County School System will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4.

Also, all Carter County offices and the Carter County Courthouse will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 through Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Woodby added that updated information will be provided later for county offices and courthouse operations for the rest of the week.

The closures come as Carter County continues to operate in emergency status from the storm damage from the remnants of Hurricane Helene that passed through the area last Friday.
