Gentry Theodore “Teddy” Reed Jr., 78, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born April 9, 1946 in Elizabethton to the late Gentry T. Reed and Cristel Putens Pierce. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herman and Hedwig Putens. 

Teddy was retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Corrections, the Carter County Sheriff’s Department and he was also an electrician by trade. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Broad Street, Elizabethton.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years and 11 months, Gilda Livingston Reed; his three children, Melanie (Kenneth) McAllister of Limestone, Jena (Jason) Smith of Knoxville and Jeremy (Carrie) Reed of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Dr. Jordan (Josh) Stroud, Liliana Ortega, Macie Reed, Callen Reed, Hadley Reed, Reagon Reed, Landon Smith and Mycah Smith; two great-grandsons, Finn and Kaysen; two sisters, Karen (Jimmy) Crosby MBSC and Janice Cowan of Jonesboro; and a sister-in-law, Judy Scalf of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life service for Teddy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Travis Tyler and Pastor Dennis Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Landon Smith, Callen Reed, Joshua Stroud, Dakota Grindstaff, Tucker Shoun and Tre Shoun.
