Sycamore Stitchers quilt show

The 29th Annual Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show will open Friday, Oct. 4, at the Sycamore Shoals State Park.

This three-day exhibition, sponsored by the Sycamore Shoals Stitchers, features a show and demonstrations by local quilters. Bed quilts, wall hangings, holiday and baby quilts, miniatures and antique quilts will be on display.

Admission is free.

The visitors center closes between noon and 1 p.m.

 

A Night of Southern Gospel at Milligan College

A Night of Southern Gospel featuring Karen Peck & New River with special guests, Phillips and Bank, will be presented Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at Seeger Chapel, Milligan College.

The event is sponsored by Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church.

Peck is a five-time Grammy nominated, seven-time GMA Dove award winner. She and New River have impacted the Gospel Music Industry for almost 30 years. Peck was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2018.

 

Death Comes to Sabine Hill

Visit Sabine Hill October 18 and 19 and learn about funeral customs, superstitions, mourning attire, professions, funeral food, and other mourning traditions in Early America.  

Take a special after-hours tour of the historic Taylor House. Pay your respects to the deceased at the wake and meet historically dressed interpreters throughout the house and grounds as they demonstrate the customs and professions associated with death, mourning and funerals in Early America. Content may be too sensitive for younger visitors. Parental discretion is advised. 

Tour times are 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30, 8, and 8:30 p.m. each night. Admission is $14 per individual.

Pre-registration is required.

Be advised that Sabine Hill State Historic Site only offers portable restroom facilities at this time. The historic house is only accessible by steps and an interior staircase. This event is subject to cancellation in the event of significantly inclement weather.

Soup Bean Luncheon, Silent Auction

A soup bean luncheon and silent auction fundraiser will be held Friday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elizabethton Senior Center. Proceeds go to support the local senior center.

Tickets include entry and a soup bean plate, which includes beans, slaw, cornbread, dessert and drink.

Tickets are available or pay at the door.

The Elizabethton Senior Center is located at 428 East G St.
