Holston Home for Children plans to host its annual Friends of Children fundraising event on Thursday, Oct. 3. The event will be held at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport.
Dr. Emily Hager, from the Tennessee Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiative, will be the guest speaker. The title of her talk is “Passed from Death to Life.” Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. followed by a program at noon.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Holston Home which has been providing hope and healing for a brighter future by sharing the love of Jesus with children and families struggling with life’s challenges since 1895.
One youth impacted recently by Holston Home’s ministry is Patty, a 15-year-old who came from a background which caused physical and emotional scars. When she first came to Holston Home for Children she was scared and felt alone. But she shared that being on campus and attending chapel on Sundays has helped her see life differently.
Oftentimes the youth request baptism, and Patty shared that desire, too.
“I wanted a change in the way I think about myself, and I want God to be a part of that change,” she said. “I want God to be a part of my life for the rest of my life.”
She said that a verse has helped her stay strong: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalm 27:14
Holston Home is a place where God restores the broken-hearted, and God is restoring Patty and others who have had similar experiences. The Lord is strengthening their faith, healing their wounds, and rebuilding their lives and the lives of those they love!
